Biography:
Funmilayo Doherty is a Chief Lecturer at Yaba College of Technology (YCT). She has M.Sc and Ph.D in Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Management. She is a member of several professional bodies including Organization for Women in Science for the developing world (OWSD) and American College of Toxicology. She is a recipient of many research grants including World Bank STEP-B Innovators of Tomorrow research grant in 2011, UNESCO UNEVOC Grant for Joint Africa Regional Green TVET 2017, Ford Foundation in 2020/2021 and Lagos State Research and Innovation Council 2022. She has 50 publications, and co-authored 6 books. She is a leading researcher at both national and international level. She is a UNESCO UNEVOC Greening TVET Ambassador and has facilitated and developed training content for Greening TVET workshops in Kenya. She is a trained and experienced International facilitator for online courses and mentor on several international research platforms such as the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publication (INASP AuthorAID platform). She is an official AuthorAID Steward and a member of INASP Star Facilitators. She organized the first ever online course in YCT and contributed to the initiation of the partnership between YCT and Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada leading to the establishment of the Flexible Skills Development Centre in YCT. She is an alumna of the UNEVOC TVET Leadership Programme in Germany in 2016 and the Leaders in TVET programme in Singapore in 2015. She was invited as a panelist by the UNESCO UNEVOC International Centre for the United Nations World Youth Skills Day at Bonn, Germany in July 2017. She was appointed a consultant by the Commonwealth of Learning to facilitate a Sustainable Development in TVET workshop in Kenya in 2018. She was a consultant in a one year Ford Foundation project on ‘Enhancing TVET system through innovative pedagogy in secondary schools in Nigeria’ in 2019. In 2021, she was engaged as Employability Skills Subject Expert by the Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (CAPA). She is a core partner of the Resilient Lagoon Network funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). Her research focuses on identification of biomarkers for monitoring impacts of pollutants in the environment. She is an advocate of gender equity and Flexible and Blended Learning in TVET. Dr. Doherty is the Immediate Past President, Society for Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Mitigation (SETPOM), Chairman, African Foundation for Quality e-Learning for TVET (AFQueT) based in Kenya and President, Yabatech Toastmasters Club.
