What is this course about?
This course supports you to develop your skills when assessing and evaluating information. The course is a starting point for developing critical thinking skills.
It consists of four units:
- Thinking, questioning and reading
- Arguments and reasoning
- Analysis of information – think critically!
- Perspectives and biases
What are the learning outcomes of the course?
By the time you have finished the course, you should be able to:
- Compose different types of critical thinking questions, relevant to the topic of study
- Improve in distinguishing between good and bad arguments
- Build convincing arguments that are informed by evidence
- Identify how correlation doesn’t necessarily equate to causation
- Avoid common pitfalls in reasoning
- Identify biases within information sources
- Understand a range of perspectives and biases
- Reflect on your own potential biases
Around how much time will this course take?
You should aim to allow around 3 hours for each unit, and to complete the whole course within 4 to 5 weeks of beginning.
What are the completion criteria?
To complete the course and receive a certificate showing your completion, you need to:
- Complete the pre-course survey
- Go through all the learning resources
- Pass the check-your-understanding quizzes (unlimited attempts are allowed on the quiz)
- Respond to the Unit 4 ‘Your perspective’ survey
- Complete the feedback survey
