Guidance for the Description of Animal Research in Scientific Publications

This report provides guidance on what to include in methods sections of journal articles reporting animal research. In particular, it states types of information to provide about the research animals, their environment, and the experimental methods. This report, which is openly accessible, is from the US National Research Council. It appeared in 2011.

Intended largely for graduate students and other early-career researchers, On Being a Scientist: A Guide to Responsible Conduct in Research (3rd edition) provides guidance on research ethics, including publication ethics. This small book can be read online. In addition, printed copies and PDF copies can be ordered. The book is a project of the US National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and Institute of Medicine.
