Biografía:
Dr Enitome Bafor is a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, University of Benin, Nigeria. She received her B.Sc in Pharmacy from the University of Benin, Nigeria, M.Sc in Pharmacology from the University of Benin, Nigeria and her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Strathclyde, UK. She joined the University of Benin as an Assistant lecturer in 2003 and currently holds senior lecturer position. She is involved in the teaching and training of Pharmacy students, Medical and Dental students, as well as Science Laboratory Technology students in areas of Pharmacology & Toxicology. She is currently the founder and lead researcher of the Reproductive Health/Ethnopharmacology Research Group in the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, University of Benin. Her research is primarily focused on myometrial functioning in pregnant and non-pregnant states as well as in diseased conditions. She is a reviewer to several renowned scientific journals and has been invited as a guest speaker in some scientific events. Dr. Enitome Bafor is also a recipient of several awards including the highly competitive TWAS-COMSTECH research grant. Area(s) of Specialization Investigation of myometrial functioning in pregnant and non-pregnant states; Investigation of myometrial function in pathological conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis and preterm labour; Use of cutting edge metabolomic technologies in biomarker studies to aid understanding of reproductive functions and in the development of new techniques/solutions to counter preterm births; Cytotoxicity screening of compounds with oestrogenic effects and that affect reproductive health including fertility (male or female); Investigation of compounds with effect on gynaecological cancers; Screening of natural compounds with effects on smooth muscle physiology with special focus on the uterine smooth muscle; investigation of preterm birth epidemiology and research into improvement of maternal and neonatal care; Investigation of novel targets for nutraceuticals in reproductive health. She is actively engaged in mentoring young students and researchers in her community with a special focus on females.
