Some Resources Recommended by a Colleague

By Barbara Gastel | April 19, 2009

On Friday, four of us who work with AuthorAID had a “meeting” by Skype. Three of the participants were in England, and I was in the United States. For about an hour, we talked about AuthorAID.

A participant in the meeting reported that AuthorAID users are recommending the AuthorAID Resource Library to others. She said she was glad. I too was glad. Recommendations from others are a fine way to learn about resources.

Recently Julie Walker, who coordinates the AuthorAID project, introduced me to some good resources: a series of “Author How to Guides” available online. These guides are from Emerald Group Publishing Limited, which describes itself as “the world’s leading publisher of business and management research”.

Currently 14 of these guides are posted. Among the guides that may especially interest AuthorAID users are those titled

These guides are relatively easy to read. Some of them include examples to illustrate the points being made.

Because these guides are from Emerald Publishing, the examples tend to come from business research or management research. However, readers in other fields also can learn from these examples (just as AuthorAID workshop attendees in other fields can learn when I use examples from medical writing).

Do you have resources to suggest? If so, please let us know.
