What is this course about?

This course has been designed to develop the skills of anyone looking for information online in defining a search strategy and conducting searches efficiently. The course will focus on finding reliable journal articles and example will all be from sources which are openly accessible.

 

What are the learning outcomes of the course?

By the time you have finished the course, you should be able to:

  1. Define your search topic
  2. Identify suitable search terms
  3. Pick the best platform(s) on which to search
  4. Use tools and techniques to refine and modify your search

You will work on your own search topic. By the end of the tutorial you will have planned, conducted and, if necessary, revised your search.

 

Around how much time will this course take?

You should aim to spend 4 to 6 hours on reading, reflecting, and completing the three steps in this course, including the final quiz. You should complete the steps in order as each builds upon the previous step. Whilst you will have access to the course indefinitely, we recommend that you complete the course within 4 weeks of enrolling
