"A photo of me observing Hela cells (cervical cancer cell line) in culture on a daily basis.
My interests as a budding biomedical researcher are in understanding the hallmarks of cancer and developing novel therapeutic approaches for cancer treatment in Africa and around the world."
Gloria Kavivya, Kenya
"I am a Systems Thinker interested in social innovation. I have been working with women and girls from my village to help improve the economic status for everyone in our village. My particular interest was how to use sisal as it is the mainly available raw material in our village. On my walk to see how sisal works, I had a chat with the women about the biggest problem for them and water seemed to top that. Hence we passed by the main borehole center in the village just outside the schools in the village. Which is where I had my cousin take this picture. I am hoping to develop a deeper study and help mitigate the problem of water shortage."
David Moneke, Nigeria
"In 2020, the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students, University of Lagos organized a public health outreach on Hepatitis B Virus. As a member of the association, I volunteered to survey the community members to assess their knowledge of the Hepatitis B Virus, the ways it could be transmitted, and the preventive measures that should be carried out. After which I enlightened those who seemed to have little to no knowledge of the virus on how it could be transmitted and prevented.
The health outreach also provided testing procedures that were carried out and gave adequate counseling on the necessary steps to take when the results of the tests came out whether positive or negative."
Geetha Nagaraj, India
"This is me, working with real-time PCR detection of the COVID19 virus. I basically work with microbial genomics and diagnostics of infectious diseases. During COVID pandemic, we performed nearly 2.5 lakhs RT-PCR tests and also performed genome sequencing on nanopore platform."

Babajide Falemara, Nigeria
"Field Inventory Work as a Research Scientist"

"Working in the field of healthcare, we have to update professional knowledge regularly. These students come to my center for Continuing Medical Education. What they will learn about is molecular techniques applied for diagnosis in patients.
In a cramped city like Ho Chi Minh City, we just have some square feet to set up our lab. That's why you can see our lab is narrow and does not have much space. However, we still utilize this for lots of successful and satisfying CME courses."
Md. Kamrul Islam, Bangladesh
