Zainab Yunusa-Kaltungo - Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe, Nigeria

Dr Zainab Yunusa-Kaltungo is a plastic surgeon, the former chairman of the medical advisory committee (CMAC) and former Clinical Governance lead of the patient safety project at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe in north-east Nigeria. Zainab has been a guest facilitator on several AuthorAID online courses. She will be moderating this event.

Keynote speakers:

Professor Richard de Grijs - Professor of Astrophysics, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.

Professor Richard de Grijs is an internationally acclaimed astronomer, academic trainer and public speaker with over 25 years of professional scientific experience. Richard served as both Scientific Editor of The Astrophysical Journal and Deputy Editor of The Astrophysical Journal Letters for over a decade. He is currently an Associate Editor of the Journal of Astronomical History and Heritage and he was the founding director of the East Asian Office of Astronomy for Development (2012--2016), an institution under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union. Professor de Grijs also served as Associate Dean (International) of Macquarie University’s Faculty of Science and Engineering between 2018 and 2021.

Dr Barbara Burmen - Research Fellow, University of Cape Town

Dr Barbara Burmen, is an Epidemiologist, Public Health Specialist, Editor, and Mentor. With over 15 years’ experience in clinical, programmatic and research fields and an interest in HIV Implementation science and clinical, research, science policy and personal mentorship. Dr Burmen has authored 30 publications, made 25 international conference presentations and received numerous awards for innovations in clinical practice, policy and research mentorship, including AuthorAID’s mentor of the year award in 2016. For her efforts in contributing to research, her community and the international community, Dr Burmen was awarded the first prize for 2016’s American Journal Experts Gold Medal Researcher.

Dr. Farooq Azam Rathore - Consultant and Head of Department, PNS Shifa Hospital, Pakistan.

Dr. Farooq Azam Rathore works as a Rehabilitation Consultant and Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, at PNS Shifa Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. Dr Rathore is also an Assistant Professor at Bahria University, Medical and Dental College and a member of the Expert Advisory Panel on Rehabilitation for the World Health Organization. His expertise includes Musculoskeletal disorders, Rheumatologic disorders and Paediatric disabilities - with over 10 years of experience Farooq provides mentoring, teaching and training to medical students and other healthcare professionals on how to conduct and publish high quality research.
