Biography:
Short Biography: Prof. Tesfaheywet Zeryehun Prof. Tesfaheywet Zeryehun was born on 10th June 1980 in a place called Gulele, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He grew up and studied his primary and secondary education in Addis Ababa. He completed his secondary education in 1997 in Addis Ababa. In September 1997, he joined Addis Ababa University and earned the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in July 2004. Soon after graduation, he got employed by Haramaya University (HU) as a Lecturer at the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). After serving for about three years at HU, he obtained the chance to pursue his MSc degree at University Putra Malaysia, Malaysia, in July 2007, through the NUFFIC funded project. He graduated with the degree of Master of Science in Hematology and Clinical Pathology in June 2010. In the same year he came back to Ethiopia and re-joined HU, where he has been working over 17 years discharging his responsibilities in the learning-teaching, research, and community engagement activities of the University. As an assistant professor and then as an associate professor, and full professor at the university, he taught a number of courses to BVSc, DVM, and MSc students at the CVM. The high quality of Prof. Tesfaheywet’s teaching is supported clearly by the the consistently high Student Evaluation Score that he has earned over the years. In addition, he has supervised DVM thesis research of more than 38 students, MSc thesis research of more than 15 students and PhD dissertation research of a student to completion. He has also coordinated some international collaborative projects at Haramaya University through which staff members, post-graduate students, the community, and the University have benefited. Prof. Tesfaheywet’s scholarly activities are prodigious and timely; more importantly, perhaps, is their positive impact on the discipline. Of particular note is the continued high quality of his research productivity as can be demonstrated by the contribution of several quality publications. To date he has published more than 45 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, and some book chapters. He has also actively involved in the scientific community through his other professional services including involvement as an advisory and editorial board members of various journals and reviewer of many articles submitted for publication in national and international journals. Prof. Tesfaheywet has also served as examiner and evaluator of MSc curricula, DVM and MSc Thesis, research and projects at other Universities in Ethiopia. Prof. Tesfaheywet has been awarded the 2019 Faculty Exchange Program at the Michigan State University, USA, where he brought to HU instructional, laboratory and research skills. In addition to his professional services, Prof. Tesfaheywet has also served in various administrative position of HU including, Animal Health Research Coordinator at CVM, Department Head of Parasitology and Pathology, Program Coordinator of the then Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Editorial Manager for the East African Journal of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (EAJVASc), and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of CVM. In addition, he has effectively served and led several committees thereby handling and delivering various assignments. Furthermore, he has been actively serving in community engagement activities of HU by participating, coordinating and supervising problem solving community-centered initiatives, campaigns, training and programs. In view of his contribution to science, Prof. Tesfaheywet has been promoted to the rank of full Professor in Veterinary Clinical pathology in 2019. In general, Prof. Tesfaheywet’s contributions to his college, the University, and the veterinary discipline and profession have been nothing short of exemplary.
