Back from 2 Workshops in Kenya

Participants doing a small-group exercise at the PACN AuthorAID workshop

Greetings again. I hope you’re doing well.

I just returned from facilitating 2 workshops in Kenya. I enjoyed the experience. The organizers had made excellent arrangements, and the participants asked many fine questions.

The first workshop was organized jointly by AuthorAID and the International Foundation for Science (IFS), in collaboration with the African Academy of Sciences (AAS).

This workshop, which focused mainly on writing scientific papers, took place at the AAS headquarters. It ran 5 days, from 28 May through 1 June.

The workshop was part of a week of events at AAS. There were 3 events: the AuthorAID–IFS workshop, a workshop on applying for funding, and a conference on getting and using equipment for research in Africa.

The workshop on applying for funding was organized by IRD (Institut de recherche pour le développement) and IFS. It occurred at the same time as the AuthorAID–IFS workshop.

The equipment conference was held on 30 and 31 May. Participants in the 2 workshops attended some parts of this conference.

The second workshop was organized by the Pan Africa Chemistry Network (PACN) and AuthorAID. This workshop, which took place at the University of Nairobi, lasted 3 days, from 4 through 6 June.

The first 2 days of this workshop focused mainly on writing scientific papers and preparing presentations. The last day was mainly on applying for grants.

Collaborating with IFS and PACN for these workshops, and holding these workshops one after the other, was efficient and enjoyable. A fine experience!

Wishing you a good week—

Barbara

This was the kind of mentor ship we young scientists require for a sustainable research and communication techniques. How I wish other African countries would receive the same measure. Thanks Authoraid, INASP and PACN
