To make full use of the AuthorAID website (for example, for viewing full profiles, commenting on blog posts, setting up mentoring relationships, taking part in e-mail discussions), you will need to register on the site.
When you register, it is important to complete your profile as fully as possible. By doing so, it will make it much easier for potential mentees to find mentors (and vice versa). If you are logged in, you can access your profile and settings at any time from the ‘Profile & settings’ link at the top of the page.
You can find other AuthorAID members with similar research interests or in a particular location as yourself by using the Member Search feature. This is the ideal place to find a potential mentor.
Every AuthorAID member profile has a message box that allows other members to send messages to him or her. These messages are received via conventional e-mail. At present, it is not possible to simply reply to the e-mail; replies must be sent by logging in and sending a message via the user’s profile.
If you’re contacting someone about potentially becoming your mentor, be sure to check the “I'm interested in forming a mentoring relationship” box
If you are a mentor, you are encouraged to guide potential mentees toward entering into a formal mentoring relationship. Effectively, this means that you and your mentee will collaborate in creating a learning agreement that sets out your proposed roles.
If a mentee has sent a message and indicated that the message is about a potential mentoring relationship, the mentor will receive a link in that e-mail that allows them to trigger the creation of an online mentoring workspace, complete with learning agreement ready to populate.
As part of a formal mentoring relationship, you will have access to a ‘mentoring workspace’. In this workspace, you can create pages of content and upload files. Because each page or file can be commented on, you can quickly build up a discussion around a topic of interest.
