Council of Science Editors- Call for Scholarship Applications | 15 September 2010,
The Council of Science Editors' International Scholarship Program has been developed to support editors from developing nations. A number of scholarships are being offered to CSE's 2011 Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD, USA. This year's meeting will focus on "Making Science Matter." Each funded scholar will receive free registration to the conference (including hotel stay and all meals) and partial reimbursement for travel expenses.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is currently accepting applications to its 2011 Access to Learning Award (ATLA), which recognizes the innovative efforts of public libraries and similar institutions outside the United States to connect people to information and opportunities through free access to computers and the Internet. The award is given by Global Libraries, an initiative of the foundation's Global Development Program. The recipient of the Access to Learning Award will receive $1 million (U.S.).

Sub-Regional Methodology Workshops for Social Research in Africa | 04 October 2010, North Africa
The 2010 session of the CODESRIA sub-regional methodological workshops will explore the conditions for the employment and validation of qualitative perspectives in African contexts. To this end, the workshops will be open to all the social research disciplines. These disciplines are uniformly confronted with broadly similar difficulties of understanding social reality and the challenges posed by techniques of data collection and analysis, which, on account of their “qualitative” nature, are suspected by some to be seriously lacking in scientific rigour.

International Academic Webcasting Grant for Developing Countries Using Open EyA | 25 February 2010, Eligible developing countries
Starting in 2010, the Science Dissemination Unit (SDU) is offering an academic webcasting grant to have an "off-the-shelf" solution for online learning. The aim is to help non-profit institutions from countries that are members of the United Nations, UNESCO or IAEA to implement the automated production of on-line scientific content (via webinars) and e-learning and distance education (via web lectures). The SDU grant provides a complete set of the openEyA recording system (worth about 650 Euros), including all necessary hardware and software. It may be awarded to up to three different organizations. The recording system consists of a Netbook, (which comes installed with openEyA and the Linux Open Source operating system), an omni-directional USB microphone, a digital camera, a webcam, and power cables.
