Back from Nairobi
Greetings again. I’m back from Nairobi, Kenya, where I helped give a workshop through AuthorAID.
This workshop, which was for water resources researchers, focused on two topics: revising research proposals and writing scientific papers. Dr Krishna Murthy, of the PES Institute of Technology (in India), gave lectures on the former topic. I gave lectures on the latter. Others spoke about other aspects of water resources research and its dissemination.
At the workshop, I gave five main lectures. Here are the titles, plus links to PDF copies of the sets of PowerPoint slides:
- How to Develop a Manuscript, Part 1: nairobi-gastel-lec-1-how-to-develop-a-manuscript-part-1.pdf
- How to Develop a Manuscript, Part 2: nairobi-gastel-lec-2-how-to-develop-a-manuscript-part-2.pdf
- The Publication Process: nairobi-gastel-lec-3-the-publication-process.pdf
- Which Journal to Publish In: nairobi-gastel-lec-4-which-journal-to-publish-in.pdf
- Some Writing Skills: nairobi-gastel-lec-5-some-writing-skills.pdf
I hope to write a later post containing highlights of lectures by other speakers.
The host and local organizer of the workshop was Maji na Ufanisi (Water for Development). (This organization ran the workshop so well!) The other organizers were the International Foundation for Science (IFS), the Centre Régional pour l’Eau Potable et l’Assainissement à faible coût (CREPA), and the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP). Special thanks to these organizations for making the workshop possible. I hope this blog will help more people to benefit from the workshop.
Finally, below are a few photos from the workshop. For larger versions, you can click on the photos.
Hoping that June is starting well for you–
