Online Course Grants Awarded by AuthorAID

By Barbara Gastel | Sept. 13, 2015

We are pleased to announce the recipients of AuthorAID's newly established online course grants. These grants cover expenses for conducting online courses on topics related to research communication.

The two recipients are

  • Victoria Funmilayo Doherty, Yaba College of Technology, Nigeria
  • Dickson Shey Nsagha, University of Buea, Cameroon

Recipients of these grants run online courses using content and activities already developed by the AuthorAID team. The courses last 5 weeks and are hosted on the Moodle learning platform. AuthorAID trains the grant recipients to facilitate the courses.

Dr. Doherty’s grant is for an online course on how to write a grant proposal. Dr. Doherty, who is a senior lecturer, has long been a member of the grantsmanship committee at her institution. This committee has held several training programs on writing grant proposals.

Dr. Nsagha’s grant is for an online course on how to write and publish a research paper. Dr. Nsagha is a vice dean and senior lecturer at his institution. For the past 8 years, he has been teaching scientific writing to postgraduate students as part of instruction on research methods.

Like other AuthorAID grants, these grants were awarded through a competitive selection process. Each of the two courses will serve learners at multiple institutions.

In her application, Dr. Doherty observed that in addition to increasing course members' knowledge and motivation, this work supported by AuthorAID will help place institutions “on a pedestal to start online learning”. We hope that after their courses, Dr. Doherty and Dr. Nsagha will write guest blog posts about their experience.

Until the next post—

Barbara
