Chinese Translations of the Slides: Xie xie!
Greetings from Pittsburgh, where I’m attending the annual meeting of the Council of Science Editors (CSE). In my next blog post, I hope to tell you about this meeting.
Now, however, let me introduce the Chinese translations of the presentations given at the AuthorAID workshop in Rwanda. These translations arrived this past week, as I was preparing to leave for the CSE meeting.
The Chinese translations were prepared by an excellent team:
- LIN Dongtao (the leader of the translation team), Sichuan University
- ZHOU Jing (Cathy Zhou), Central South University
- CAI Hebing (Jack Cai), Fudan University
- ZHANG Jian, Peking University Health Science Center
(In keeping with some guidelines for writing Chinese names of authors in English, the family names of these translators are indicated in capital letters.)
The four translators all teach at major Chinese universities. Their activities have included teaching medical and scientific English, giving workshops on research writing and publishing, providing editorial help to researchers, and translating English-language medical books into Chinese.
All four translators were editorial trainees in the China Medical Board editor training program. I was impressed with their performance in this program, and so I invited them to translate AuthorAID slides. I appreciate their having accepted the invitation.
Interestingly, all four translators were university schoolmates. Some were even university roommates!
Each member of the translation team translated 3 of the 12 presentations. Other members of the team served as peer reviewers. It was a good system for quality control.
